A TV Aerial is an antenna that is specifically designed for use with a television (TV) set to receive over the air TV signals from a TV broadcaster. TV reception depends on both the antenna and the transmitter. Terrestrial TV is broadcast on frequencies ranging from about 47 to 250 MHz in the Very High Frequency (VHF) band, and from 470 to 960 MHz in the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band in different countries.
TV antennas are manufactured in two different types:
– Indoor antennas, normally installed on top of or next to the TV set, and
– Outdoor antennas, commonly installed on a pole on top of the owner’s house.
They can also be installed in attics, where dry conditions and higher elevation are advantageous for reception and longevity of the antenna. Outdoor antennas are more expensive and complicated to install, but are necessary to obtain adequate reception in remote areas far from TV stations.
