Closed-circuit television (CCTV), also commonly known as video surveillance, is the usage of video cameras to broadcast a signal to a specific location.
CCTV systems can operate continuously or only when necessary to monitor a particular event, can be used both as a surveillance system for a home and as a surveillance system for a commercial shop, pubs, public areas etc.
Depending on the range you can control the sharpness or warmth of the image depending on whether you want to use the cameras in at nighttime when the light condition is very poor as some are equipped with an infrared camera or even with audio recording option.
In cases where the CCTV system is more sophisticated, you can even change the direction of the camera remotely, zoom in on the image or even speak from an internal speaker from each camera independently.
